This blog shares my exact thoughts about the Dr. Who season finale.

Blog of Darren Derbyshire

Last night we saw the mid season finale of new series of Doctor Who and here is my review of episode 5 and series so far.  Please don’t read if you have not seen any of the episodes, major spoiler alert.

In this episode the Doctor takes Amy and Rory to Central Park. While the Doctor reads a “Melody Malone” novel to Amy, Rory is taken by a Weeping Angel on his way back from getting coffee. In 1938 New York City, Rory meets River Song, posing as a private investigator and as the Doctor discovers, the author of his Melody Malone novel. The Doctor and Amy use the novel to break their way into a time locked 1938 and find Rory, while he and River investigate the Angels’ takeover of Manhattan. At the Winter Quay hotel, they find an aged Rory on his deathbed, confirming Rory’s fate. The Angels created the hotel in…

Upgrading PS3 Hard Drive

Since the PSN store started this mass Genesis of great deals of digital downloads I had to make the jump from 150gb to 500gb hard drive. Thank God the PS3 uses a standard SATA Notebook hard drive. So what will you need to make this process a reality.

  1. PS3 update file
  2. External Hard Drive
  3. SATA Notebook Hard drive
  4. Screw Driver
  5. USB Cable for PS3 controller
  6. PS3 Controller
  7. PS3 (duh)

Now the first step is to back up your current info on your PS3. Make sure you have your external hard drive plugged in the PS3. In the XMB scroll over to the settings tab. That is to the far left after the user tab. Now look for System Settings. Press X and scroll to Back Up Utility. Select it and another menu will appear. It will say Back up, Restore and Delete Backup Data.

Select Back up and there will be a screen informing you that the trophy data won’t be backed up. That can be synced online. Then under that warning you will see your profile name of the info that you will be backing up. For me it was my user profile Ruscle_BVI. Select Yes and the next screen will ask you to back up the data to “other storage media” which is your external hard drive. Select yes and you will see your external hard drive as on option to use.

Now depending on how much games you have downloaded on your PS3 this can take a while. Now we go to http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/pc_update/index.htm for the update file. Follow the directions correctly so that you can update the PS3 once the new hard drive is installed. What I did is the same external hard drive I used to back up the PS3, I placed the UPDATE folder in the PS3 folder. Keeping everything I needed for the upgrade in one drive.

The Hardware

The above pic show the external Hard drive I used to back up and update my PS3 once I swap it out with a 500gb notebook SATA hard drive. I know fellow geeks I am using a Western Digital Hard drive. I know I am taking a risk but hey….life is a risk. So to find where the Slim PS3 keeps the hard drive is easy.

It is right under the slot where you place your game discs. Get your screw driver and take out the blue screw. Then you will slide the black panel to the right. It is the one right in front with the formats the PS3 can play written on it. Then you will see the Hard drive bay.

Once you slide that out we can then swap out the old with the new. There will be 4 screws holding the Hard drive. They are very tiny so be careful. I have a son who loves to take stuff and run with it. So I strategically did this when he wasn’t around. What I recommend doing is keeping the old hard drive just in case something was to befall your PS3. Say someone stole it or even got zapped by aliens. Even worse Zombies…

Now the fun part. Slide back in the hard drive. Place back in the screw and lets turn back on our PS3. DO NOT BE AFRAID when you see the default screen of your PS3. The text may look blurry but that is because we need to load back the PS3 update file. The PS3 will ask you to plug in your PS3 controller via USB. Once you plug in your controller it will ask you to press start and select at the same time to find your update folder. At this point you can plug in your external hard drive. Press start and select and it will find your update file. Now if it does not find your update file make sure it is in the PS3 folder. Inside the PS3 folder you should have an UPDATE folder. Inside the UPDATE folder should be a ps3.pup type file. So double check that if you have any problems. Now sit back and let the Ps3 update itself. After that is done go ahead and go back to the settings tab. Then look for back up utility. Then restore back up file. Restore your back up and all your info is back where it belongs. You may have to set back your themes but I found this process quite easy. Now to deal with all those games and demos. I know what is gonna be my first game to download.

Time to get my download swerve on!!

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Reveal

So as you can see here that Black Ops 2 is really trying to bring a different spin to what we already love to hate. The new Pick Ten System in Create a Class. Now I wonder how much of this will be used for evil. Yall know what I mean. There is always a flaw in these things. Someone will find the right unbalance to make every one in that game scream at their headset. The fact it is Call of Duty people will swarm by the masses to get it. Now we know Black Ops was the most full featured of the Call of Duty series. The only version to have Offline Multiplayer options that is quite awesome when playing in tournaments or LAN battles. So far I am interested in seeing how this new system will work out in real life. I am not sure if I will be getting it for the PS3. I done know the Xbox Version would be 100 times better. Everyone knows they sleep with the Xbox 360. Thus the reason they get the maps first and whats not. Also most likely they port the game down to the PS3 after making it perfect on the Xbox. Then try to make it work on the PS3 just because they like money. Trust me there will be tons of youtube videos comparing the PS3 version to the Xbox 360. Oh I nearly forgot the Wii-U. To be honest I am not even checking for that. The gimmick of playing on the Wii-u Controller is nice but not enough to make me buy it. I don’t feel like I know much about the online component to make a fair judgment. Also I have to see how playing on that HUGE controller will feel like in my hands. Thing is huge. So the cycle begins for another Call of Duty game. Only God knows what Modern Warfare 4 will be like.

Gaming: A Wallets Enemy

Any true gamer will tell you that being a gamer is hard. Why? Because the industry loves raping our wallets. They don’t care that the economy is bad. They don’t care that your family misses you while you are in a dark room playing Guild Wars 2 or World of Warcraft Mist of Pandoria expansion. We all love the never changing Call of Duty series that always take our money and leaves us feeling like a bad ting in a bang tight. Never satisfied. Then we go on facebook raging to all our friends.

Nintendo’s new Cash Cow

Don’t get me started with the latest entry to the Next Gen console war. The Nintendo Wii-U will be setting you back at least $400 big ones. You done know we ain’t paying that here in the BVI. Then the price of games is about $70 easy after you do the tax math. I mean what do Nintendo think we are. Rich!

While I was browsing the PSN store I saw that they gone all out with exclusives and Day one digital downloads. Join PSN now and get a discount they say. It is like dangling crack in front of an addict. Make me sick to know I can download all my favorite games at the comfort of my own home. NO PSN! You will not make me buy a card to get one of the most awesome 3D fighting game called Dead or Alive 5!!

Roses are tits. Violets are tits. I like tits.
Tits. Sorry but this game has lots of boobies. Great Fighter.

You know PSN get it first then Xbox 360. So they gonna get you no matter what. But talking about downloadable games on PSN they brought over a PS2 classic. Grand Theft Auto 3. Yes the grand daddy that started the beat a whore revolution. The game that made being bad so good. I really see why my wallet hates me. Sometimes even when the wallet in my PSN account had a few dollars left over from buying Gravity Rush for my PS Vita I found something to spend it on. A server in BF3. Why do they make it SO EASY to spend money. Then recently Sony announced this shiney new headset.

Soon I will have to sell body parts. I just don’t know why they hate me so much. This puppy will set you back $150 easy. I have one thing to say about that.

We are constantly being bombarded with cool stuff to buy. I wish there was something that can be done to help gamers in need. To save us from this viscous cycle. Don’t get me started with the Xbox 360. The superior online service is bar none the most robust I have ever seen on any console. Which we all know IS NOT FREE. That service will allow you to play online with your friends for an easy $50 a year. Trust me you will get your monies worth. They even have Digital Movie services like Netflix and Hulu. Even HBO Go is there. For the Sport buff we got ESPN. All not available in the BVI of course without using a VPN server and some DNS changing. You know that cost money also. Which leads me to the biggest Xbox 360 cash cow since the day it was released on the first Xbox. This game broke up happy homes. This game started the revolution we all know all to well before COD came. This game was what Goldeneye did to nintendo 64. I am only talking about the game that LITERALLY SELLS XBOX 360’s.

Need I say more. This game is epic. Once again I have to find money for this game and all the other games coming out. Medal of Honor Warfighter, Black Ops2, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Assassin Creed 3 and Dishonored to name a few. I know you are wondering why the industry like to rape us. Well to be honest that is why we are Hardcore Gamers. We been there from the time Mario stomped a goomba. When Pong was not just a game. When calling someone a “noob” is worst than calling them a pussy. We are the ones that buy the limited edition just because we want to have it. So get that extra job. Find your sugar daddy. Our wallets are mad but it serves one purpose. To help me frag noobs in BF3 everyday. Stay Frosty!

Clan Battles HTKU in BF3

So my fellow gamers I have put together a little pic mash up of the HTKU clan going hard in the paint. As we speak Blake is putting a video together of our exploits. While my boy muck was playing as usual Blake is doing what he does best……get dem tags lol.

Here we have the main man Birch getting on rude in this squad death match. Not gonna lie I was impressed with his teamwork and keeping the team alive. Which goes to show if you play BF3 as a team properly achieving victory is easy.

As soon as I get a video capture device I would posting game match ups. Here is the last pic of a nice Squad Match.

So here we have just plain out killing. No team Work. Just plain out killing. Sometimes I feel for the people we play against. Sometimes they think we are glitching. Sometimes they think we are cheaters. Don’t they know we just bad like that.

Here is some pics of our fans giving us some heart felt appreciation.

He really did report me. Thank God Dice don’t have time to mind noobs that have no skill.

I get this so much now that I had to rent my own server. I guess it is not right to tea bag the admin. Also Snipe him while parachuting 3 times. While killing his friends with a G18. Then tea bagging them as well. I can see why they would be mad…

So as the time draws closer for the release of Medal of Honor Warfighter I will continue to punish noobs make BF3 a better place for real killers to play. Also I love killing COD Noobs. They are so easy to kill. I mean they run around thinking that they can kill me with a rocket launcher. Don’t they know that this game have bullet drop. Tsk Tsk headshot everytime.

LOLGasms!! BF3 Style!!

The man SimpleJack1011 giving us BF3 players something to laugh about once again. He started this new series called LOLgasm that replaced the Memfield series. Just loved the one with hunting noobs lol.
